Inauguration
Day 2017
Friday, January 20th
I could not watch it.
I decided to boycott the television today, in
solidarity with many other self-styled “resisters.”
It is a protest of sorts, a poke in the eye to the new
president, Donald Trump, the T-Rump. My own boycott being a barely noticeable jab
at the man who is covetous of ratings. A way of denying him something that he
loves so much.
I would not normally watch an inaugural address
anyway, that is the truth, but if I was home, in any other cycle, I would have
had the news on. It would have been playing in the back ground; because all I
do is listen to the news.
I turned off my television at about 5:00 am.
I turned off my satellite radio in my car.
I turned off the monitor at the gym when I was jogging
on the treadmill. For this little protest, I am doing my part.
I heard some commentary on the FM radio; T-Rump’s
speech was not an appeal to unity.
I saw some photos on Facebook; they showed thin crowds,
an anemic response to the quadrennial transfer of power.
It is a somber day.
I heard a report that T-Rump had requested and has
been granted a flyover of military jets to punctuate his ceremony and the
parade.
He also asked for a procession of tanks and missile
launchers in the style of a two-penny despot; a Vladimir Putin, or a Kim Jong Un. That grandstanding was denied to him.
The flyover was bad enough. It had not been a part of
the peaceful transfer of power for over forty years.
It was requested by a man who never served, a draft
dodger, who received five medical deferments, for his bad feet, even though if
you listen to him he was a world class athlete in his prep school days.
The most ridiculous man has become president of the
United States, with the help of the Russians, and bad actors in the FBI.
America is already paying the price.
