Chapter One: The Discontent
Throughout
the million worlds of the Empire, with its trillions of people, a tiny
fraction enjoyed lives of peace and relative security, the majority were
discontent. They had ambitions, most of which were simply to live out their
lives and raise their families, see them advance and experience some joy.
Happiness
is what they desired.

Chapter Two: The Dispossessed
Most of the people living in the Empire had nothing,
they accumulated no wealth, received no inheritance, passed nothing on to
their children.
Most of the people had no rights as citizens, they were
outcasts, untouchable, wholly owned by the Empire.
Their lives and deaths were meaningless; unsung,
unremembered and unknown.
They were the majority.

Chapter
Three: The Hidden
The common man and woman lived secretive lives, they did not share
their resentment with anyone, they hid their pain and their fears, hiding their
true feeling even from those closest to them.
The oppression of fear covered them like a moist heat, robbing them of
the air they breathed, and they dared not complain.

Chapter Four: Enemies
Those who harbored rebellion in the hearts had to be conditioned to
see every person or group as an enemy. Even members of their own cabal had to
be seen as potential threats.
There was no middle ground.
Revolution is a zero-sum game. Everyone had a breaking point at which
they turned against their own.

Chapter Five: Murder
In the mind of the revolutionary killing was not murder, not even
assassination was murder. It was always self-defense.
In the heart of the revolutionary even the innocent could be killed,
justified as an attack on the systems of oppression, There were no innocents,
everyone was complicit.
You were either with them or against them.

Chapter Six: Revenge
Violence generates its own cycle of violent reprisal.
Revolution is a turning of the wheel, oppression generates aggression.
Revenge is sought simply for the principle of it, not to redress the wrong that
prompted the response, but merely to satisfy a need, like hunger. It leaves
the person unfulfilled, and it invites a similar reprisal.

Chapter Seven: Conflict
Revolution
is conflict, it is a conflict with end.
The rebel
must be hungry for it, must thrive in it, live with the desire burning inside
of them, burning with a steady-quiet heat, until the moment comes when they
explode into action.
The
revolutionary cannot know that the conflict never ends, their sacrifice must
matter.
