Emergence 2.0
A Novel – In 55 Words a Day
Friday, December 14th, 2018
Chapter One: Fear
Jim was an
intractable critic, perpetually discontent, it was natural to his character.
However,
his concerns regarding the Continuum were not rooted in his basic disposition
as a malcontent. They were based in his abiding interest for ethics and
morals.
He was frightened
by the things he witnessed, the Collective was a society of monsters.

Chapter Two: Anger
Jim was angry.
The core of his being was filled with a sharp
bitterness over the way the Collective had squandered their existence.
They were a gaggle of voyeurs, feeding their obscene
habits like the worst of gluttons, without reflection. They were addicts and
he blamed the Continuum for pushing the drug, keeping them sedated.

Chapter
Three: Resentment
He was proud.
He had been a member of the team that had constructed the original
field of collective consciousness, or so he believed. He entered it himself,
together with his family, toward the end of his life.
It did not bring joy.
He resented the role of the Continuum, and its manipulation of it.

Chapter Four: Idealism
Jim seemed to be a repository of the ideals the Ancient People had
abandoned as they joined the Collective and abdicated their responsibilities
for self-governance to the Continuum.
He was fiercely independent and strident in the pursuit of justice. He
saw this as a matter of personal conviction, a purpose that he had to
fulfill.

Chapter Five: Purpose
His objection to the Continuum went beyond indignation, his resolve to
destroy it filled him with purpose, a slow burning-smoldering drive to undo
the affliction of the Collective.
He was patient.
He knew his plan would have to have two components, to set the Empire
free, and then to undo the influence of the Collective.

Jim imagined a way he could slip something into the systems of the
Collective, a virus, slip it past the security features of the Continuum when
both it and the Collective were exposed and at their most vulnerable.
They had to want to receive what he had to offer. They had to hunger
for it.

Chapter Seven: Conspiracy I
He planned
a conspiracy and formed a cabal.
He
replicated himself over and over again. His fellow conspirator were each a
version of himself. Identical to himself, sharing the same freedoms, but each
of them subordinating themselves to the cause they shared.
They were
connected through the cynergenic field, and they were of one mind.

Rebellions does not spontaneously emerge.
People do not rise up against their governments and rulers for no
reason. They will not risk life and freedom on a lark. The soil must be
prepared. Outrage must be fomented, they must be conditioned to see something
in the rebellion that is worth the cost of their lives.

Chapter Two: Seed
The seeds of rebellion are ideas, that Jim planted in
the minds and nurtured in the hearts of those experiencing injustice, he did
not foster systems of injustice for pleasure.
The motive was utilitarian.
To flourish, the people required the expectation of
justice, to grow in strength the people required the experience of its
opposite.

enemies, protecting those within.

Energy must pour into the center without surcease, in order to ensure

have sewn injustice reap the same. This is the natural cycle of every
civilization, and though the Collective had been spared this cycle for
billions of years, Jim was determined to ensure that its time had come.
The revolution was at hand.

This is
the nature of rebellion.
The revolution

corruption and dredging the earth.
This is

Chapter One: Archetype
To foment
revolution is to cultivate a thing, to do it successfully you must play on
narrative with ritual, symbol and myth.
Revolution
requires people to see themselves as heroic archetypes, no matter how
insignificant their role in the revolution is, they must see it as a quest
and themselves as the agents of change.

Chapter Two: Symbol
A rebellion needs both a hero and villain, an object of
hope and an object of wrath.
The symbols of rebellion are dualistic, binary
configurations with a zero-sum resolution.
The motivating force is for justice, triumph of
righteousness, the elimination of despotism and the eradication of tyranny.
There could be no compromise, victory is absolute.

Three: Narrative
Rebellion does not spread by the experience of injustice, whether from
the direct experience of the victim or from the experiences of witnesses.
Rebellion spreads by the narrative that is related, the stories we tell of
those experiences.
Narrative must be rooted in truth, but must be told with flourish,
generating empathy among the listeners.

Rituals shaped the entire context of a person’s life. Both the patriot
and the rebel shared the same songs, the same history, they shared the same
stories, stories which pointed them to different ends.
Heroes were interchangeable with villains, and with the proper ritual
any crime could be forgiven and any character could be redeemed.

lives.

survivors moved quickly to consolidate their power, setting themselves up as

this happens within a single generation, other times it takes two or three,
but the transformation is inevitable.

leaves the person unfulfilled, and it invites a similar reprisal.
