Emergence 3.0 - Section Five, 92835670100561474; Part Thirty-two, Abnegation; Chapter Seven, Destruction

Emergence 3.0
A Novel – In One Page Per Day
Day 238, Sunday
August 26th, 2018

Chapter Seven: Destruction

It was only by abandoning the Collective that Jim came to himself.

He stopped identifying himself as a member of that community and began to see himself as a one of the ancient race of people who had launched themselves into the galaxy.

He was an adventurer, a sojourner.

He had to stop reaching out.

He prepared himself for a journey of discovery.

He divested himself of his beliefs in the greater purpose, the promises that were promulgated by Continuum.

He was not a believer, he would engage in no missionary work.

He had to accept his own death, as he had learned to when he came out of the great sleep.

He would no longer cling to selfhood, to the perpetuity of his own existence.

All things must come to end, he instructed himself.

All things and beings are temporary.

The way to peace is by accepting the transience of all that is.

Every member of the Collective would pass away, the Continuum would disappear, just as the star their society first sprang from had disappeared, gone supernova and been reduced to a dense mass of lightless-nothing.

Emergence, In Fifty-five Words - Section Five, 92835670100561474; Part Thirty-two, Abnegation, Collected Chapters

Emergence 2.0
A Novel – In 55 Words a Day
Day 232, August 20th, 2017

Chapter One: Penalty

Ages passed before he was discovered entering the experiential fields of other members of the Collective, violating their privacy.

There were no laws against it.

There was no law.

This was a taboo no one thought could be crossed.

He was only caught because of the outrage he expressed at their depravity.

He was jailed.

Chapter Two: Release

The Continuum wanted to dissect him, study him, and ultimately erase him.

However, the Collective recognized his uniqueness, took responsibility for abandoning him after he had awoken.

They elected to free him.

The individual members of the Collective were able to override the judgement of the algorithm that represented in some way their combined will.

Chapter Three: Nothing

The entire Collective deliberated his fate for a period of ages.

It was a time of trial.

He was not allowed to speak.

He was isolated, sequestered, cut off.

There was silence, darkness, and emptiness all around him.

Nothing in his entire existence had prepared him for that.

It was an extreme form of torture.

Chapter Four: Peace

In time, he mastered himself.

He learned how to focus.

He waited.

In the isolation, he was given the time to contemplate, to examine his conscience, to come to terms with himself, and find a sense of purpose.

He formed a desire to tear apart the world as he had always known it.

He planned.

Day 236, August 24th, 2017

Chapter Five: Freedom

When he was untethered from the collective, freed from the pressure of its passions, released from the depths of existential fear that lurked and slumbered within it, he found himself.

In that negative space, all of the plans and schemes he had concocted crystallized.

He would either advance his agenda, or he would be extinguished.

Chapter Six: Purpose

In isolation he found a sense of purpose, a desire to remember everything, to understand.

He wanted to experience real-life, to be flesh and blood again.

He needed to connect with the visceral, the palpable, and the organic.

He wanted to remember everything that his people once were, and he wanted to destroy the Continuum.

A Homily – The Gospel of Luke 21.5 - 19 ©

The Gospel of the Day – 2016.11.13

The Destruction of the Temple Foretold…

When some were talking about the Temple, remarking how it was adorned with fine stonework and votive offerings, Jesus said, ‘All these things you are staring at now – the time will come when not a single stone will be left on another: everything will be destroyed.’ And they put to him this question: ‘Master,’ they said ‘when will this happen, then, and what sign will there be that this is about to take place?’

‘Take care not to be deceived,’ he said ‘because many will come using my name and saying, “I am he” and, “The time is near at hand.” Refuse to join them. And when you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened, for this is something that must happen but the end is not so soon.’ Then he said to them, ‘Nation will fight against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes and plagues and famines here and there; there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.

‘But before all this happens, men will seize you and persecute you; they will hand you over to the synagogues and to imprisonment, and bring you before kings and governors because of my name – and that will be your opportunity to bear witness. Keep this carefully in mind: you are not to prepare your defence, because I myself shall give you an eloquence and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to resist or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relations and friends; and some of you will be put to death. You will be hated by all men on account of my name, but not a hair of your head will be lost. Your endurance will win you your lives.’

Beware the False Prophet

Jesus did not utter these words. They were penned by the gospel writers, years after the temple in Jerusalem had been destroyed, years after the war with Rome that led to its destruction, and years after they were dispelled from Roman occupied Palestine.

Jesus was not a fortuneteller, he did not predict the future. God, the creator of the universe, God has not preordained anything.

Do not be deceived.

These are the best words, the best advice for living in the gospel reading for today. Do not be deceived. Many will come and claim to be Jesus. Every generation has such pretenders.

The gospel writers were pretending to be Jesus when they put words in his mouth that he never spoke. They thought they were doing good. Most of those who pretend to be Jesus think they are doing something good, or at the least they think they are doing something necessary. The gospel writers were no different in this.

The other message is simple. Do not be afraid.

The world will continue to be a violent, and an unsafe place. We live in a hard and dangerous world. Have hope.

If you dedicate your life to challenging those in power, you must expect that they will act against you. If you should find yourself in court simply because you are working on behalf of the poor, and the marginalized. Do not worry about your defense. Your actions will speak for themselves.

Speak truth to power. The rest will sort itself out.
