Impressions

You have heard it said that you are where you have been; you are, this is true

You are, and you are what you eat: gram by gram, ounce by ounce, pound by pound

Amino acids, proteins housing memories, engram by engram

Wraiths rush past me, reflections in the dirty-glass, reaching out for me

The rainfall pools, collected in the dirty-street, ghosts jump in the light

Places I have been, the trajectory of fate—weaving memories

Warped purpose, threads patterns on the loom, spindle fibers and neurons

Electrons repeat on the skein, loop in their circuit, strange and funny

Projections of the self, shuttled forward and backward, upside down through time

Lowly little worms emerging from the cocoon, butterflies with horns

Chrysalis in the milk-weed, monarchs in the street dressed in silk, burnt orange

Soft winds returning, lilac scents my garden, warm rains after winter

Emergence 3.0 - Section One, Jim and Kathy; Part Three, Loss and Discovery; Chapter Five, Impressions

Emergence 3.0
A Novel – One Page Per Day
Day 026, Friday

Chapter Five: Impressions

Kathy could not shake the feeling that Jim had wanted to tell her something. It grew in her.

It was oppressive.

Hours passed, and that feeling lingered, it was like a stone laid across her chest, pushing the air out of her. It was like a heavy smoke, thick and oily that filled her lungs.

The despair was so strong in him, it was like a vacuum. She found it difficult to breathe.

She mustered all of her mental resources, her deep training, and the comfort of the ancestral voices within her, so that she could stay in the moment and not flee.

Kathy was never the type to run from anything.

She had a poised and practiced patience that was equal to the greatest mystics the world had ever known. This is not to say that the task of remaining calm in the midst of strong emotions did not require work, it did, it took work, but Kathy had never failed to live up to the challenge.

In that moment she discovered something new.

Kathy had always been able to link her mind to that of another person; to read their thoughts, to be one with them, see through their eyes, feel what they feel; to be in their present as if there were no distance between herself and the self of the other.

This was possible because in reality there was no distance between the selves of individuals. She knew this to be true, even while neuro-physicists were still working out the possible mechanics of this reality. The quantum mechanics of the electromagnetic field made this so.

All of space and time were interconnected, it was called entanglement, in the entangled reality of consciousness there was no distance between one person and the next. The truth of this is what made Kathy’s gifts possible. This reality was what explained all so-called “psychic” phenomenon.

What differentiated Kathy from every other human being that had come before her, was the architecture of her brain, and the fact that she had a greater concentration of certain nano-particles floating like free radicals through her cerebellum. This gave her a better “antenna,” better by an order of magnitude, than any other person in human history.

Emergence In Fifty-five Words Section One, Jim and Kathy; Part Three, Loss and Discovery, Collected Chapters

Emergence 2.0
A Novel – In 55 Words a Day
Day 022, January 22nd, 2017

Chapter One: Watching

Jim said goodbye and left. He was methodical in his bearing; as always. He never looked back.

Kathy followed him with her eyes, when he turned the corner, with her thoughts, which were disturbing. She was never able to read Jim, but today the membrane of consciousness that shielded him form her, it was translucent.

Chapter Two: Connected

Kathy was with him, locked onto him, looking through his eyes for the first time as he drove away.

She could bond this way with anyone, at any time.

Of all the people she had ever met, Jim alone was a mystery to her. While she was connected to him, she felt his deep despair.

Chapter Three: Portents

Jim projected a profound sense of doom, of danger. It lingered in the vacuum that was left when he departed. The strength of it filled Kathy with unease, as if an event were about to happen that would stop everything.

She looked around and saw the world covered in ashes, with everyone choking for air.

Chapter Four: Unrequited

Jim left a pen behind. He always left something; as if they were little presents just for her.

Kathy stared at the pen, imagining it with all the other things of his she collected, reassembling them in her mind into an image of him; a golem made piece by piece from things he had discarded.

Chapter Six: Finding

Kathy stayed at her table. She sat by herself, alone in the crowd, concentrating on Jim. She sensed a fragility in him she never had before, had never imagined was possible. With that, she felt it was an omen, a portent, indicating that life as she knew, all life on Earth was about to change.

Chapter Seven: True

Throughout her life, Kathy felt as if the “weight of the world was on her.” She felt it in a unique way, due to the intimate, some had described as “psychic,” connection she had with people near her.

She felt she was “too sensitive,” never suspecting how real, how complete, how all-encompassing those feelings were.
