Garden

A forgotten life, love, a future of discarded possibilities

The shoot rises, the blossom opens, a fecund feast

For the society of bees, the buzzing congregation

Unfurling, petals drop from the bare stalk, soft pastels

Blushing and bruised on the concrete walk, withering

In the sun, seeds falling to the ground, each one a

Lost potential

Love Unrequited

Consumed with desire
Driven by the need for love
Down into the pit

Falling endlessly
Lost in pain, under pressure
Crushed by mystery

Absolute zero
Could not stop my broken heart
Burning in the dark

In the hollow night
Heat without light, and breathless
Enshrouded, alone

Grief

Shattered and frozen
The boy lifts his head, afraid
And submits to loss

Retreating desire
Watching her slip beyond view
Alone and wanting

His quivering lip
Shivers with rejection, pain
Abandoned and lost

Feel it, a cold hand
A hot slap, enlivening
The sinuses sting

Tearful agony
Oblivious to the storm
Contemplation ends

He stands and shuffles
Puts his hands in his pockets
Swallows his grief, and
            Turns

Lost

Silver in moonlight
The still sea reflects the stars
Hope, love’s bright mirror

Keeper of dreams, witch
Calypso whispers softly
Come sleep on my shore

Eat the wild fruit, live
Drink the lotus nectar, rest
In the sweet perfume

Step into heaven
The deep green horizon, pure
Beneath the banyan

While Penelope
Waits, and the light slips away
Crashing on the shoals

Beauty

You overwhelm me
I am caught, lost in your scent
Sea foam and honey

Goddess, Aphrodite
Venus, daughter of Titans
I bow before you

Queen of Olympus
Uncrowned, ruler of the heart
I am your servant

Six billion prayers
One in every kiss, love spills
From your blushing lips

In the light of hope
Desire, take me in your heat
Bless me in your fire

Touch the solar wind
I dive into the maelstrom

Washed in beauty’s flame

Emergence, In Fifty-five Words - Section Two, The Continuum; Part Twelve, The Empire, Collected Chapters

Emergence 2.0
A Novel – In 55 Words a Day
Day 085, March 26th, 2017

Chapter One: The Lost

Ages before the technological advent of collective consciousness, before the invention of the Continuum, the Ancient people were adventurers.

They explored their solar system, colonizing every world, exo-planet and satellite.

They launched themselves into the galaxy, on ships, and planetoids crossing the dark and empty chasms between the stars, never to return.

They were spacefarers.

Chapter Two: The Search

In time, a curiosity arose within the Continuum.

A search began.

The Collective desired to discover what happened to those ancient explorers, the adventurers who gave everything to the quest for knowledge, the colonists of asteroids and comets.

The Continuum launched probes into space to follow their trail, and find the records of their passing.

Chapter Three: The Homecoming

In time, all of the lost colonies were found, both the living, and the dead.

Very few of them remembered anything of their origins, or the long dead, cold, star system from which their progenitors hailed.

It was easy to coax them into worshipping the Continuum and its promise, to forge them into an empire.

Chapter Four: The Magisterium

A Priesthood emerged from the civilizations founded by the Ancients, by those in greatest proximity to Home World, and nearest in time to the birth of the Continuum.

It was guided by the agenda of the Observer Corps.

It created the doctrine, and dogma, the binding rituals that structured the spiritual devotions of the Empire.

Chapter Five: The Missions

Star system by star system, and planet by planet, the Imperial missionaries recovered the lost peoples, and brought them all together.

They founded the Empire from those remnants of the Ancient people that had given birth to all of them, even though each group had changed in significant ways.

They offered this to the Continuum.

Chapter Six: The Billion Worlds

The children of the ancient race, the first people, they evolved into many different life forms; varying cultures, alternate ways of being.

The Empire collected them all, gathered them into a cohesive body through ritual, by dogma, doctrine, and with the promise of eternal life.

The Empire was the threshold of the Continuum, the gatekeeper.

Chapter Seven: The Emperor

The Empire was organized hierarchically, like a great pyramid, with the Imperator at the top.
The Imperator was the focal point, the sword tip, the apex of the vast galactic civilization, which imagined ruling the lives of countless people.

The Imperator was actually an Observer. He was the bridge to the Continuum, the Pontifex Rex.
