Emergence 3.0 - Section Five, 92835670100561474; Part Thirty-one, Silence; Chapter One, Paralysis

Emergence 3.0
A Novel – In One Page Per Day
Day 225, Monday
August 13th, 2018

Chapter One: Paralysis

In time he was forgotten, virtually forgotten. The membership of the Collective let him go, paid no attention to him, but the Continuum could not.

He was a part of it.

He drifted, unseen by the Collective. He watched the life and the drama of what was transpiring in the Galactic Empire.

He disentangled himself emotionally, from the Collective.

He created an epistemic, nearly ontological distance between himself and the Continuum, but he could not free himself completely.

He was removed from the daily consumption of vicarious experiences, the orgies of sexuality, of suffering and violence that the rest of his fellows in the membership delighted in.

He had no appetite for them, preferring quiet instead, self analysis, a reflection of his time in sequestration, his memories from life before the Collective when he himself was an embodied person, living and breathing as flesh and blood.

What he consumed from the Empire were not the stories of crime and punishment and dynastic ambition which the Collective delighted in. He focused instead on the ordinary lives of simple people, on their hopes and dreams, on their daily delights.

He loved them, in his way..

Emergence 3.0 - Section Two, The Continuum; Part Fourteen, The Collapse; Chapter Five, Paralysis

Emergence 3.0
A Novel – In One Page Per Day
Day 103, Friday
April 13th, 2018

Chapter Five: Paralysis

The Continuum was helpless as the human Collective merged with the Collective consciousness of the Ancients in its artificial nousphere.

Its identity was shifting in real-time, because it was in fact an amalgamation of the collective field that comprised the quantum Matrix of the Central Planet.

While the Continuum had a distinct independent identity, it was not in fact a true individual.

As humanity flooded the field, the amalgamation that formed the Continuum changed. The benchmarks that framed the identity of the Continuum shifted, it had no reference for itself, it was no longer itself, no longer the unique being it had told itself it was.

The Continuum was faced with the notion that it had never wanted to admit, had fought against, had destroyed entire planets to protect itself from the knowledge of, that it was, in itself, nothing more than an amalgamated construct.

The shock of that realization was overwhelming, the nature of its being was changing through the introduction of the new, human elements which were quickly becoming the majority.

Change defined the human experience, the Continuum dreaded it, feared it, never imagined the scope and rapid pace at which it could take place.

Everything the Continuum had tried to do, everything over the course of billions of years, was meant to preserve and protect two things; the physical construct of the Central Planet and the Home World, preserving the integrity of the Collective; and to protect and preserve the construct itself, and its assumed identity as the apex of all existence, a being unique in the entire universe, never to be met, matched, or rivaled,

Humanity ascended according to their aspirational nature, and the Continuum recoiled according to its craven nature.

Day 225, August 13th, 2017

Chapter One: Paralysis

In time he was forgotten, he drifted, unseen by the collective.

He disentangled himself emotionally, creating an epistemic, nearly ontological distance between himself and the Continuum.

He was removed from the daily consumption of vicarious experiences, the orgies of sexuality, of suffering, and violence.

He had no appetite for them, preferring instead to analyze himself.

Chapter Two: Erosion

His bond to the Collective faded.

He shared neither their values, nor their desires.

He was not moved by their fears, or their passions.

He experienced a new mode of cognition.

It was new life.

He was awake to himself, but dead to the Continuum.

He was detached, and he slipped away from their awareness.

Chapter Three: Crucible

Returning to consciousness, emerging from the great sleep, was like passing through the eye of a needle.

No person had ever reassembled their identity in the billions of years that continuum had been in existence. In doing so, his essence changed.

He became a catalyst among those near him, fomenting change in them as well.

Chapter Four: Hearing

While he was submerged in the great sleep, deep in the subconscious of the Collective, he sensed the currents of thought pulsing through it, and deeper than that he also sensed the presence of all of the others who had entered the great sleep.

Those pulsing rhythms were what woke him, bringing him to awareness.

Chapter Five: Seeing

He learned to do things that were designed to be impossible, never before considered.

He developed the ability to penetrate the experiential fields of individual members in the Collective.

It was startling at first, but it went unnoticed as he hovered in the roots of their subconscious, listening to their thoughts, and feeling their feelings.

Chapter Six: Feeling

It was intended that no-one ever return from the great sleep.

The promise of the Collective was that each member be preserved forever.

In reality, Continuum sought to erase everyone who choose to fade away, to not participate.

When he woke, he was an anomaly, more than one, entangled in every part of the whole.

Chapter Seven: Being

He was no longer the person he was when he entered the great sleep, he knew that.

At his core, his identity was the same as the man whose entered the Collective as an organic being.

Now the essence of the Collective was enmeshed in him, and he was connected to every part of it.

Emergence, In Fifty-five Words - Section Two, The Continuum; Part Fourteen, The Collapse, Collected Chapters

Emergence 2.0
A Novel – In 55 Words a Day
Day 099, April 9th, 2017

Chapter One: Shock

There was nothing that the Continuum, had ever experienced, contemplated or foresaw, in all of its time, that could have prepared it for the dying anguish of an entire world.

Until that moment the emotions of its subjects had merely been data. It experienced the lives of its people vicariously, and through well buffered systems.

Chapter Two: Pain

When the catastrophe struck the Collective, fear followed shock.

It was as if a chasm had opened beneath the Continuum, followed quickly by a white hot pulse of agony, pushing it over the edge.

It was chaos. There was panic. The attack threatened oblivion.

Jim had prepared everything precisely, had prepared to assume the control.

A Novel – In 55 Words a Day
Day 101, April 11th, 2017

Chapter Three: Shame

Human emotion, alien emotion, forgotten feelings long buried, flooded into the Collective.

Regret, hopelessness and loss saturated the membership.

The Continuum had no frame of reference or context by which to process the tsunami of raw feelings that overwhelmed the Collective, even as it sought to calm the group mind, it was being washed away.

Chapter Four: Sympatico

In the aftermath of the assault, shock and confusion awoke the Collective to its new identity.

The incorporation of humanity was experienced as alien invasion.

For thousands of years Jim had been preparing them to receive it, through human music, human art, and culture.

The collective wanted it, they were hungry for it, and helpless.

Chapter Six: Corruption

A plurality of the membership of the Collective fled the wave of human consciousness that breached its cynergenic field.

They went dark, retreating to the place of the great sleep.

Jim activated the measures that secured them in isolation. He intended to keep them bound forever silence, as a permanent sub-consciousness for the new Continuum.

Day 105, April 15th, 2017

Chapter Seven: Fuge

As human consciousness penetrated the Collective, the Continuum attempted to build defenses against it.

Time dilated around the event, a fuge occurred within the group mind.

In a quantum blink the convergence was complete.

While the Continuum was trying to defend itself in the world, the balance of power shifted in no-time.

Humanity emerged ascendant.
