Visions of honor
National identity
Feudal patronage

Is it heaven’s will
Fealty, nobility
I think it is not

The war engines roar
Burning loyalty to fuel
Sick machinations

Asking the question
Are we impoverished without
A king or a queen

Our bones bought and sold
Our blood and hope, like strong drink
It was not enough

To kill and die for
Assuaging our conscience, while
Redeeming our spirit

There is an answer
To every question, and right
Behind each answer

Another question
As far as the eye can see
Like a branching tree

I cannot remain
Still, seeking ever seeking
Knowledge, understanding

I have not set out
To know everything
Just to know something

About me, who I am
Understanding of purpose
The quest for meaning

Behind the shadows
Dancing on the wall, shapeless
Infinite and eternal

Mountains of sadness
The endless rain of regrets
Yesterday’s twilight

The span of ages
From the birth of time
The human being comes

Plagued by doubt and fear
The unsolvable riddle
The Gordian knot

We ask the questions
Why does my heart beat, pump blood?
Why do I perceive?

Scratching the lessons
In lives that have no meaning
Dull stylus, blank slate

What can we posses?
What matters? Faith, the future?
A handful of sand

There is only us
The division of our cells
Turning like a clock

With broken hands, time
The piecemeal calculation
Of eternity

The human equation
The nocturne of tomorrow
The tragic finish

Mountains of sorrow
Climbing in uncertainty
Spinning on the wheel

Lux Aeterna

A ray of light

Narrowly escapes

A closing door

Achieves expression

Illuminates space

Enlightens an object

Casts a shadow

Creates a question

Tabula Rasa

Being, a blank screen
Impersonal and empty
Cold, pre-persona

Fingers turn pages
Reach beneath the cool surface
Grasping for knowledge

Determining truths
Words in simple forms capture

Scrawled on the surface
In symbols of light and shade
Self deepening, self

A slate of numbers
The binary path, seeking
Truth, the empty set

Does freedom exist
In a textbook, a question

The place beyond time

Light - Given at the Troubadour

A ray of light
Narrowly escapes
A closing door
Illuminating space
Enlightens an object
Casting a shadow
Creates a question

Given at the Troubadour
First Monday’s at the Troubadour
