Vote III - Editorial, The Week in Review

Analysis, Commentary, Opinion

Vote     III

The talk continues about how Donald Trump will refuse to concede the presidency when he loses the election on November 3rd. In the past week he became the first president ever to suggest that we delay the election.

He is spreading lies about the process of mail in voting, fear mongering and worse. His own attorney general echoed Donald Trump’s sentiments in his testimony before congress without offering any proof, or even the rudiments of an actual argument support by statistics of any kind.

Donald Trump and his minions are simply making assertions, counterfactual statements, lies to make their point.

Donald Trump cannot delay the election, do not follow the bright shiny object or be distracted by that prospect. Focus on what is really happening: voter disinformation, voter intimidation, voter suppression, and other malfeasance.

The most important thing we can do is vote, everyone must vote!

Do not forget to vote. Do not forget to register. Do not forget to vote.

Double check your registration status and vote.

If you are voting by mail then get your ballot early, mail it back early or drop it off at a collection center in person.

Check and double check the date you write on your ballot, and your signature. If the Secretary of State in the state where you live sends you any correspondence, read it, follow up on it, and be on the look out for bogus mailings coming from supposed election officer who do not belong to a recognizable public office.

It had been discovered that Donald Trump and the Trump Administration are interfering with the United States Post Office, a newly appointed Post Master General, a trump supporter and campaign contributor just took office and has implemented measures to slow down the mail.

They do not want the Post Office to facilitate Trump’s electoral defeat.

This cannot stand. Postal employees should refuse to cooperate with these measures. Do your patriotic duty and process the mail.

Do more, prepare yourself with knowledge; we need a massive public education campaign, we need a crash course in civics. There is an electoral process that must play out, it is different from state to state, but every citizen should take the time to become familiar with the rules, the laws that govern your voting rights in each and every local.

Let’s not be confused, Donald Trump will lose the popular vote, and he will lose in the electoral college. Nevertheless, between now and then there will be a massive disinformation campaign trying to scare you into not voting, trying to convince you that your vote doesn’t matter, or that your vote is illegitimate. The orange tyrant and his republican cronies will attempt to invalidate your vote; we cannot let them

Wherever republicans have the authority they will purge voter roles, close polling stations, make it more difficult to vote; our duty is to be undeterred, to insist on our rights, to cast our votes, and to have our votes counted.

Familiarize yourself with the laws that govern voting where you cast your vote.

Over the last two week we discussed the voting rights act of 1965, which was designed to enforce the rights guaranteed in the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution, and the laws that govern elections at the federal level.

Last week we discussed the statutes that govern voting in my home state of Minnesota.

In the weeks leading up to the election we will look at the statutes that govern voting in key battleground States.

Knowledge is power, arm yourself with it.

Hold your government accountable!

Abuse of Power - Editorial, The Week in Review

Analysis, Commentary, Opinion

Abuse of Power

Donald Trump has no idea what it means to be a public servant. He is the antithesis of a patriot, and corrupt to the bone.

It has been an amazing thing to see, watching his stogies in the Republican Party; to watch people Senator Lindsey Graham make excuses for his crimes, pretending that his abuses of power do not matter.

Those people are not patriots either, they are craven, they are cowards and they clearly hate America.

Donald Trump spoke this week at the United Nations. He rambled on and on about nationalism, about the inherent right of a nation to protect itself, the duty a nation has to advance its own interests, of course we know that when he says these things he is thinking that he himself has the inherent right to use the power of his office to do that for himself.

Have you ever noticed how this Fake President refers to his time in office as his “rule” or his “reign?” Last week he was talking about his “ascension” to the house, and he referred to it as “the takeover of America.” He thinks that when a civil servant performs the duties of their office, and report him up through the chain of command for self-dealing, extortion, and other high crimes, he thinks this is somehow treason, and should merit the death penalty. T-Rump said as much at a gathering of State Department staffers, gathered at the United Nations.

He was warning them not to blow the whistle on him.

T-Rump wants to be able to spill our national secrets to our adversaries, to invite or coerce foreign powers to interfere in our elections, to advantage him in doing so, and most importantly to profit from those crimes.

He has appointed people like Mike Pompeo to the position of Secretary of State, and William Barr to Attorney General, men who pretend that they are covering his abuses out of respect for the office, because they believe in its powers, not T-Rumps, but they are far off the mark. The office is not served by the criminal that occupies it.

You cannot refuse to protect and defend the Constitution of the United Sates by failing to respect the separation of powers it articulates, the checks and balances it enumerates, by perjuring yourself before congressional committees, claiming privileges that do not exist, not responding to congressional subpoenas, hiding or destroying documents. Every office is diminished when you do that.

If we abandon the rule of law we become the playthings of tyrants.

The congressional Republicans have an opportunity in front of them. They are being invited to exercise their conscience on behalf of the country, to sit in judgement of this orange-fool who would sell us out to the Russians, to the Saudi’s or any other petty principality that would put a dollar in his pocket.

They are being invited to let go of their hypocrisy and stand for the principles they pretend to possess.

Let’s hope they do it, and bring the Fake President to an ignominious end.

To Impeach or Not to Impeach - Editorial, The Week in Review

To Impeach or Not to Impeach

Not a week goes by that I do not hear this question being asked, with more and more lawmakers answering the question in the affirmative, Donald trump needs to be impeached.

This week alone the news revealed that the Attorney General, William Barr booked a $30,000 holiday party at a T-Rump property.

Donald Trump put forward the notion that he would schedule next year’s G7 Summit at his Doral golf course in Florida.

He continues to promote his private interests over and above the security of the country.

He made of fool of himself on the national stage, practically begging the other world leaders to allow Russia back into the G7, making it the G8 again. The rejected his appeals.

He told his agencies to move forward with the rapid seizure of land along the southern border to facilitate his vanity project, the T-Rump Wall. He encouraged them to break the law if they had to promising to pardon them afterward if they did.

He revealed classified photos of an Iranian missile site, and while as commander and chief he has the right to do so, he did it to grandstand and put our security at risk in the process.

The man is a menace.

Impeach him now.

Impeach him and let the Senate determine his fate, force Mitch McConnell and the republican party to deal with their collective shame.

Those who argue that we should wait, that we should let the election next year sort things out, those people are not taking seriously the harm this man can do on any given day that he occupies the oval office.

The Trump presidency represents an existential threat to our democracy and to the republic.

Impeach him.

Read below, the Congressional Oath of Office

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

The current occupant of the White House attacks the Constitution of the United States on a daily basis. Fulfill your oath, protect the Constitution.

We cannot wait for him to be voted out of office, we cannot wait for the damage he will undoubtedly do to the country between election day 2020, and inauguration day 2021. We are in a constitutional crises right ow people.

The fake president must go.

Off the Rails - Editorial, The Week in Review

Analysis, Commentary, Opinion

Off the Rails

Donald Trump is openly talking about using the Justice Department to investigate his political opponents, namely Joe Biden, and there appears to be no resistance coming from his Attorney General, William Barr.

Rudy Giuliai was preparing to travel to Ukraine to place pressure on that government to reveal the details of a closed investigation into Joe Biden’s son. He said that he wanted to know what role Joe Biden played as Vice President of the United States, in quashing an investigating and removing a corrupt prosecutor from a case involving a Ukrainian oil firm which Biden’s son had a connection to. Never mind the fact that Great Britain, Canada, and multiple other countries were all working in tandem with the United States to oust the Ukrainian prosecutor on grounds of corruption. Never mind the fact that a multi-national effort to remove that prosecutor and close that investigation succeeded on the merits.

Donald Trump and his administration are in open defiance of the law, refusing to submit to congressional oversight, refusing to respond to congressional subpoenas. They are operating a criminal regime, and they must be stopped.

It was revealed this week exactly how terrible of a businessman Donald Trump is. A look at his losses over a ten year period revealed that he lost more money than any person in the history of the United States. It is absolute madness that anyone takes him seriously.

This government is off the rails.

If Donald Trump and his croonies get their way the Republic will be finished. There will be no checks and balances in government, we will be ruled by an autocrat and our democracy will be in a shambles.

He laughed at a rally this week when one of his supporters suggested that we should just shoot undocumented immigrants on sight…no hearings, no due process.

The most failing entrepreneur in the history of the world is holding the reigns of executive power, and he is driving us over a cliff.

Stay united people, get rid of him.

Contemptuous - Editorial, The Week in Review

Analysis, Commentary, Opinion

I listened to William Barr, Attorney General of the United States, I listened to him lie, and display his ignorance concerning the very serious issues our country is facing.

His behavior is criminal. It is crime to lie to congress.

His refusal to appear before a house committee exercising its legitimate and constitutional oversight over the executive branch, does not only show his contempt for congress, it puts on full display his utter contempt for the American people.

Every Republican lawmaker, office holder, voter who defends these actions echoes that contempt. They show their absolute disregard for the civil institutions, traditions and laws that undergird our democracy. Any citizen who defends the Attorney General, or Donald Trump who appointed him, in this reckless and dangerous erosion of the American way, of our systems of checks and balances and the proper functioning of our government shows themselves declares themselves as an enemy of the American people, or someone willing to aid and abet those who are seeking to destroy our country.

If that sounds extreme…then take a second look.

The President of the United States and those who he has appointment to act in his name are actively conspiring with the enemies of the United States and other adversaries to undermine the democrat process and corrupt the vote.

These same Republican operatives have sought by every means available to them to suppress the vote of American citizens at every level they can; local, state and federal elections.

They are doing this for a myriad of inexplicable reasons, most of which boil down to their unmitigated greed money and power.

These men will stand up, swear under oath to tell the truth, knowing that they are going to spew lies to the American people. They lie all the time, Donald Trump tells hundreds of lies of week. They do it gleefully. They do it in service to themselves.

They are contemptuous.

Shame on any American who continues to support them.

The Republican Party is absolutely corrupt, unhinged, a clear a present danger to the nation.

A people cannot be free if they are not governed by laws, laws are meaningless if they are not grounded in truth. Our lawmakers must be truthful to the American people, not contemptuous of it.

We must hold them accountable.
